Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Eyewear
The Company recognizes its duty to comply with the Health & Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 amended (2002), which includes provision for eye tests and spectacles (single vision lens and basic frames only) required specifically for use with Display Screen Equipment (DSE). All employees identified as someone who will habitually use DSE will be entitled to an appropriate eyesight test upon their request. Further tests may be requested if an employee is experiencing difficulties attributable to the screen work.
The Company’s eyesight testing scheme is administered by Specsavers and employees must use this scheme if they want the Company to fund their work related DSE eyesight test and corrective spectacles required specifically for use with DSE. The arrangement with Specsavers fully meets all the requirements of the DSE Regulations.
Process for requesting eyecare vouchers:
• The employee should contact the HR department to request an eye test voucher.
• The HR Department will issue the employee with a VDU eye care voucher and the employee can then book an eyesight test at a Specsavers location to suit them.
The VDU eye care voucher will cover a full eye examination at any Specsavers Opticians up to the value of £25.00. Further it will cover the cost of a pair of £45 Pentax C39 single vision lens glasses when required solely and specifically for VDU use.
Alternatively, the employee is free to purchase eyewear where the cost is more than the value of the voucher (e.g. alternative frames, bifocal, or varifocal lens). The £45 may be used as a contribution toward the alternative but they will be required to settle any balance personally (no balance is refundable by the Company).
