Safety Eyewear
The Company Policy is that employees who normally wear corrective eyewear and are engaged in occupations which necessitate eye protection will be supplied with Prescription Safety Eyewear.
New employees who, for any reason, have not been issued with prescription safety eyewear must, if they wear spectacles, be issued with suitable protective box goggles where job requirements warrant eye protection.
The provision of Prescription Safety Eyewear will be co-ordinated by the HR Department and subject to a reasonable period of use, may be re-issued from time to time at your line Manager’s discretion, in discussion with the HSQE team.
The Company’s eyesight testing scheme and provision of Prescription Safety Eyewear is administered by Specsavers and employees must use this scheme if they want the Company to fund their work-related eyesight test and provision of safety eyewear. Whilst there is no fixed replacement period on such items, the Company would not expect, other than in exceptional circumstances, to replace in a period less than the recommended minimum standard of two years.
Non-Prescription Safety Eyewear
Appropriate Safety Glasses or Over-Glasses will be provided by your line Manager.
Process for requesting eyecare vouchers:
• The employee should contact the HR Department to request the required vouchers, advising of the requirement for single, bifocal, or varifocal lens (if known).
• The HR Department will then issue the employee with:
- A VDU eyecare voucher
- A safety eyewear voucher for Specsavers safety glasses fitted with Pentax CR39 single vision lens. (If bifocal or varifocal lens are required, the employee will be given two safety eyewear vouchers)
- A safety eyewear lens option voucher for Polycarbonate lens.
The employee is free to purchase eyewear where the cost is more than the value of the vouchers, but they will be required to settle the balance personally (no balance is refundable by the Company).
Once provided, the employee is expected to always have their protective eyewear available during work periods and are responsible for the care and maintenance thereof.
Should the eyewear need to be replaced due to damage or loss resulting from negligence or misuse, the employee may be subject to Disciplinary procedures.
